Custom Homes has sponsored a Habitat home in
partnership with Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Every Saturday,
volunteers come out to build the home in the Villas Esperanza (village
of hope) Community located in South Phoenix. Pictures from each build
day will be posted to document the progress of the 15-week build. Villas
Esperanza is located three miles West of South Ranch, Habitat's first
community of 195 homes. Villas Esperanza is platted for 93 and a 1.5-acre
community park.
Serving metropolitan Phoenix since 1987, Habitat for Humanity, Valley
of the Sun (HfH,VS) is a grassroots ecumenical housing organization whose
mission is to build affordable housing and community partnership to promote
spiritual values and individual responsibility. Habitat is dedicated to
strengthening community by providing homeownership opportunities for working
families of low and moderate income through the use of volunteer labor
in partnership with families.
As the largest Habitat in the Western United States, Valley of the Sun's
primary focus is on planned neighborhoods that provide more to the homeowner
than just a new house. These neighborhoods are built with sidewalks, parks,
front porches, and community resource centers, all of which encourage
neighbor interaction, provide educational, cultural and recreational activities,
and create a sense of community.
In addition to building communities, HfH, VS continues revitalization
work in the Glendale and Sunnyslope communities. These projects focus
on changing the face of an existing community rather than new construction
on raw land. In the Fall of 2003, Habitat will also be building in the
Capital Mall District. |
